Three more hostages – two women and a man – were released after nearly 11 hours on a hijacked bus in Greece today.

Two armed men hijacked the bus in Athens carrying more than two dozen passengers early today, threatening to blow it up with explosives unless they were taken to the airport and put on a plane, police and government officials said.

Seven hostages were released earlier into the stand-off.

The vehicle was surrounded by patrol cars and ambulances at a stop just over 10 miles from the city centre on the outskirts of eastern Athens.

The hijackers demanded €1m and to be taken to the Greek capital’s airport for a flight to Russia.
