French and Germans say 'no' to Turkey in Europe
Two-thirds of French and more than half of Germans are opposed to Turkey’s entry into the European Union while 65% of Spaniards favour bringing the mostly Muslim nation into the EU, according to results of a poll made public yesterday.
The results of the Ifop poll of citizens of five EU countries reflected the arguments developed by politicians, from questions of human rights, to religion and culture, and even to whether Turkey is geographically part of Europe.
