11 killed in Philippines market explosion

Eleven people were killed and nearly 30 others injured today when a powerful explosion rocked a market packed with Christmas shoppers in the southern Philippines.

The mid-afternoon blast, apparently from a home-made bomb or a grenade concealed in a box, killed three people instantly and destroyed at least two stalls in General Santos city, Superintendent Willy Dangane said.
