Insurgents detonated a roadside bomb as a US military convoy passed in southern Baghdad early today, injuring six Iraqi civilians, police and hospital officials said.

Police Lieutenant Muqdam Shukir said the explosion occurred in the Dora area of southern Baghdad at about 6.30am local time (3.30am Irish time).

Six Iraqi civilians were injured and taken to Yarmouk Hospital, according to hospital official Sabah Aboud.

It was not immediately clear if any American forces were injured in the attack. The US military had no immediate details.
