Four ETA explosions rock Madrid
At least four explosions rocked Madrid tonight after Basque terror group ETA threatened bombings in the Spanish capital.
A petrol filling station was one of the targets but initial reports said the explosions were by “low potency” bombs. There were no reports of injuries.
One device exploded at a filling station near a road packed with people leaving the city for a long holiday weekend, the news agency Efe said.
Another agency, Europa Press, said there were two small, separate blasts that caused no injuries.
Basque newspaper Gara said it received a call from a person speaking on behalf of ETA who said five explosive devices had been placed at filling stations along major roads leading out of Madrid.
ETA, which has not launched a major attack in months, regularly uses Gara to announce impending attacks.
Almost 200 people were killed in co-ordinated bomb attacks on trains in Madrid in May. The attacks were blamed on al-Qaida linked terrorists.
