No decision today Ukrainian election result

Ukraine’s Supreme Court said it will not come to a decision today on the opposition’s appeal challenging the validity of the disputed presidential election.

The Central Election Commission declared Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych the winner of the election, but opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko claimed the vote was rigged.

Judge Anatoliy Yarema said the court in the capital Kiev would give Yanukovych’s lawyers until 10am tomorrow to study additional evidence presented by Yushchenko’s team.

The opposition is asking the court to throw out the results, cancel the election commission’s decision and name Yushchenko the victor because he narrowly won the October 31 first round.
