Senate minority leader defeated

In a political seismic shock, US Senate minority leader Tom Daschle was beaten today.

He was edged out in South Dakota by former Republican John Thune after a bruising €20.3m contest in which Republican leaders went all out to depose the nation’s top-ranking Democrat.
