Bomb explodes in central Athens
A bomb aimed at two riot police buses exploded in central Athens early today, causing no injuries, authorities said.
The device apparently was detonated from 30 yards away using a cable, and went off on a busy street as the buses drove past. There had been no warning and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Suspicion fell on anarchist groups responsible for a spate of arson attacks since police earlier this month ended massive security measures that had been put in place for the August Olympics.
On Wednesday, four youths were arrested in southern Greece after a rural police station was attacked with gasoline bombs.
Last Saturday, two police officers escaped from a burning car that had been hit by a firebomb in central Athens. Three other cars were also destroyed.
