Bigley beheaded 'after escape attempt'

Ken Bigley made a frantic bid to escape his captors shortly before being executed, sources in Iraq and the United States said today.

Accounts of his last, desperate hours came as the hostage’s home city of Liverpool fell silent in a two minute tribute.
