Grenades fired at Russian federal security building
Anti-tank grenades were fired overnight at a Russian security services building in the southern republic of Dagestan, police said today. No one was injured.
The attack by unknown assailants shattered windows in the two-story Federal Security Service building in Khasavyurt in Dagestan, said Anzhela Martirosova, deputy head of the regional Interior Ministry’s press office.
Authorities were investigating the incident.
Dagestan, an ethnically-diverse region that borders Chechnya, has been plagued by violence including bombings and shootings, many of which have been blamed on Islamic militants.
As in much of southern Russia, police and security officers have become a prime target for the militants.
