Turkey overcomes human rights block to EU path

Turkey has given human rights guarantees, setting the stage for a recommendation on beginning talks over EU membership, the bloc’s expansion commissioner said today.

“There are no further conditions that Turkey must fulfil to enable the European Commission to make a clear recommendation” about when to open these talks, said Guenter Verheugen in Brussels.
