Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt is recovering in hospital today, after his chauffeur-driven car crashed into a concrete pillar near his home and overturned several times.

Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt is recovering in hospital today, after his chauffeur-driven car crashed into a concrete pillar near his home and overturned several times.

Verhofstadt was returning to his home in Ghent last night from Brussels, 30 miles away, following two days of talks to save his government, when the accident happened.
