Militant kills nine Indian soldiers

A lone militant stormed a building housing soldiers in Indian-controlled Kashmir in an apparent suicide attack, killing nine soldiers and wounding 10 before being shot dead after a 12-hour gunbattle.

The man hurled a grenade into the building in a residential neighbourhood in Srinagar city before entering it and firing repeatedly in the assault, said VD Tokas, deputy inspector-general of the Central Reserve Police Force.
