The UN Security Council renewed the authorisation for the Nato-led force in Bosnia for six months and welcomed the European Union’s intention to take over the peacekeeping effort by the end of the year.

A resolution adopted unanimously by the council underlined its commitment to the Dayton peace agreement that ended the 1992-95 war, which pitted Bosnia’s Muslims, Croats and Serbs against each other.
