Row over UK police chief's position continues

A British police authority confirmed today it will meet again to discuss the future of its embattled chief constable – just hours before the matter is considered by a judge.

Last week the Humberside authority resisted UK Home Secretary David Blunkett’s order to suspend chief constable David Westwood.

Mr Westwood has repeatedly refused to resign despite accepting the criticisms of Michael Bichard, who investigated how child killer Ian Huntley was able to get a job as a school caretaker despite having a string of sex allegations recorded against him when he lived in Lincolnshire.

Huntley went on to murder 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in August 2002.
