Spurned doctor poured acid over woman patient
A doctor threw sulphuric acid over a female patient who spurned his romantic advances, police said today.
The woman died of her injuries.
Dr Petru Paduret, from Moldova, told police he attacked his patient on Saturday, dumping a litre of sulphuric acid on the woman outside of her home in the suburbs of Chisinau, the capital of the former Soviet state bordering Romania.
Paduret, 46, fled. But neighbours heard the woman, identified only as Alina, scream, and rushed to her aid, taking her to a hospital.
She died yesterday from burns suffered in the attack.
Paduret, who specialises in dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases, told investigators he had been angered by the patient’s refusal of his advances, police said.
“I didn’t realize what I was doing. I didn’t even give her first aid,” he said.
