Libya halts trade with North Korea

Libya has agreed to halt military trade with North Korea, Syria and Iran, US Undersecretary of State John Bolton said in Washington.

The move follows a decision by Libya to stop its programmes to develop weapons of mass destruction. It was hailed as welcome news by Bolton, who said North Korea had provided Libya with its Scud missiles.

In Tripoli, Libya said it will not trade any military products or services with countries that produce weapons of mass destruction.

“Libya wishes to announce officially ... it will not deal with any products or military services with countries it considers as a source for weapons of mass destruction,” the Libyan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Libyan statement said its decision falls within its pledge to “implement and apply its decision to get rid of any programmes, material and equipment that lead to produce internationally banned weapons.”
