Passenger leaps from jet on runway

A passenger forced open the door of a jet and leaped on to the runway tarmac just minutes before it was due to take off from Singapore’s Changi airport.

The passenger, a 22-year old Swiss student, was arrested after falling from the Switzerland-bound aircraft, but he was not charged, police said. He was “given a stern warning”.

Police said the student began grappling with the cabin door as the plane was about to depart for Zurich, and he punched a flight attendant who tried to stop him.

It was not immediately clear why he jumped off. He was not allowed back on the plane.

“As a security precaution, all passengers were offloaded and a check of hand-carried luggage and the cabin was conducted,” police said.

The flight left about two hours later after the security check was completed, police said.
