Greek army boss quits after accident
The Greek army chief quit today following an accident which killed two soldiers and injured a dozen others.
Lieutenant General Panagiotis Harvalas resigned for “reasons of sensitivity,” the army said.
The resignation came only 99 days before the Athens Olympics where the Greek army will shoulder many of the anti-terrorism duties.
The two second lieutenants died on Wednesday when an armoured personnel carrier crashed into a makeshift training facility near the northern city of Ioannina.
Three base commanders were sacked immediately after the incident.
It was the second fatal accident involving soldiers in the past month.
