Manchester United have denied that Old Trafford has been identified as a target for terrorism.

Reports following the arrest of six men and a woman in the Greater Manchester area claimed that the stadium was the subject of a suicide bomb plot for this Saturday’s Premiership match against Liverpool.

However, a United spokesman told PA Sport they had been talking to the police but only with regard to normal arrangements for the match.

He added: “We have not been told that Old Trafford is a target for a terrorist attack.”
