Girl falls to death from ride
A teenage girl has died after plunging 100 feet from a white knuckle ride at a Wales leisure park.
Hayley Liane Williams, 16, from Pontypool, suffered fatal injuries when she fell from near the top of the Hydro Ride at the Oakwood Leisure Park in west Wales into a splash pool below.
Ten-year-old Martin Rothwell, from Swansea, who also fell from the ride, was treated for slight head injuries in hospital and later discharged.
Both the girl and boy were taken to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest. The teenage girl was airlifted.
A Dyfed Powys Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that 16-year-old Hayley Liane Williams suffered fatal injuries following the incident.
"The 10-year-old boy received a slight head injury, for which he had treatment at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, and he has been released into the care of his family."
Dyfed Powys Police have launched an investigation with Britain's Health and Safety Executive.
The spokesman added: "Police inquires have begun and the ride sealed off for examination by ourselves. A joint investigation with the HSE has been launched."
A spokesman for the HSE said they had received a report of the incident and an inspector was being sent to the park to investigate.
A spokeswoman for Oakwood Leisure Park refused to comment on reports of the accident.
However a statement on the park's official website said: "Due to an incident, Hydro will be closed until further notice."
