President Hamid Karzai urged Afghans today to wage a new holy war on the country’s booming drug trade – and keep their side of a costly bargain with the rest of the world.

Karzai, home from Germany where donors pledged almost £5bn (€7.6bn) to rebuild his war-stricken country, said it was up to Afghans to show the money is a wise investment.
