Blair arrives for Gaddafi meeting
Tony Blair arrived in Tripoli today for controversial talks with Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
The British Prime Minister’s chartered British Airways jet touched down at 9.18am.
He arrived as news emerged that British police investigating the murder of policewoman Yvonne Fletcher will visit Libya.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw revealed the breakthrough while the Prime Minister was en route to the country.
Ms Fletcher was gunned down outside the Libyan embassy in London on April 17 1984.
Metropolitan Police officers will travel to Libya on April 3, Mr Straw said.
Mr Blair’s officials also confirmed that oil giant Shell was preparing to sign a £110m (€163.9m) deal for gas exploration rights off the coast of Libya later today.
Mr Blair’s official spokesman told reporters on his plane that the deal was potentially worth £550m (€819.7m).
