Shots fired during Iraqi assassination protest
US soldiers fired shots to disperse a violent protest in an Iraqi town against Israel’s killing of Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin.
Protesters burned two police cars and two hand grenades were thrown at a government building in Ramadi, west of Baghdad, witnesses said. At least two police and three protesters were injured.
Muslim clerics in Ramadi, where support for the anti-US insurgency is strong, had urged followers to protest following Yassin’s assassination in Gaza City yesterday.
