Fed-up designated driver loses licence deliberately
A Norwegian was so fed up with being his girlfriend’s designated driver that he lost his licence on purpose.
The 30-year-old spotted a police car in front of him and hit the accelerator, passing the officers at 85mph in an 50mph zone in Trondheim.
It worked. The police pulled him over, and gave him a speeding ticket.
The man acknowledged his offence in court this week and explained that he sped past the police hoping to get caught so he wouldn’t always have to drive his girlfriend.
The court praised his honesty but said it did not understand his reasoning.
The court granted his wish by banning him from driving for a year, and added a 14-day jail sentence.
The man’s name was not released, in keeping with Norwegian practice.
