A convicted killer who was due to become the first death row inmate to be executed in California under Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rule was granted a stay today.

Kevin Cooper, 46, was due to die by lethal injection early tomorrow, but an appeals court granted a request for an 11-judge re-hearing of the case.
