Libya today threatened to withhold additional compensation promised to the families of those killed in the Lockerbie bombing unless the United States offered a prompt reward for Tripoli’s decision to abandon its secret weapons programmes.

Libya’s Prime Minister Shukri Ghanim said US sanctions should be lifted by May 12 or his government would not be bound to pay the remaining £3.4m (€4.8m) to each family of those killed.
