They rarely see eye-to-eye but US President George Bush and former First Lady Hillary Clinton are America’s favourite twosome, according to a poll today.
New York Democratic Senator Clinton recently called President Bush an “extremist” and criticised his policies on Iraq.
She is also thought to be preparing her own White House campaign for 2008.
But despite their differences a Gallup poll for CNN and the USA Today newspaper found Mr Bush and Mrs Clinton to be the most admired man and woman in the US.
Mr Bush topped the male poll with 29%, easily beating Secretary of State Colin Powell and the Pope, with 4% each and former President Bill Clinton with 3%.
Mrs Clinton, was named by 16%, followed by talk show host Oprah Winfrey with 7%, First Lady Laura Bush with 6% and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, who got 4%.
The choices were not restricted and respondents could vote for whoever they chose.
The poll of 1,004 adults was taken between December 5 and 7.
