MEPs vote to increase their own salaries
Members of the European Parliament have voted to increase their salaries to more than €100,000.
The pay increase was part of a plan to reform the notoriously lax expenses regime enjoyed by MEPs.
Under the plan, which was approved yesterday, MEPs will have to provide receipts to claim travel
expenses, their retirement age will be fixed at 63 and they will be liable for national tax on top of a special low rate of EU tax.
All Irish MEPs voted in favour of the plan except Rosemary ‘Dana’ Scallon.
