Aid agency teachers shot dead
Unidentified gunmen have killed two British teachers working for an aid agency in Somaliland.
Officials in the autonomous region of northern Somalia said a husband and wife team working for the SOS Kinderdorf children’s organisation were shot dead yesterday.
The Vatican-based Missionary News Agency, MISNA, also reported the slaying and that the victims worked for the non-governmental agency.
Names were being withheld until the next-of-kin could be identified.
The deaths come just weeks after an award-winning Italian aid worker was killed in Borama, Somaliland.
Annalena Tonelli, 60, was shot on October 5 outside the hospital she founded to treat tuberculosis patients.
A lone gunman shot and killed Tonelli in Borama, a town 580 miles northwest of Mogadishu and police later detained four suspects in connection with the killing.
