US soldier dies trying to detonate bomb

An American soldier was killed in west Baghdad today as he tried to detonate a roadside bomb.

The victim was part of an explosive ordnance detonating team that had tried to blow up the bomb by shooting it with a heavy machine gun on a Bradley fighting vehicle.
