Israeli helicopters fire missiles in Gaza City strike

Israeli helicopters fired missiles in a strike in Gaza City today.

One witness said the apparent target was the car of Hamas founder and spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin.

Yassin’s car was travelling on the street where the missiles hit, said Abdel Nasser Ramadan, a Palestinian medic. The missiles did not strike the car, the medic said.

Israel has carried out six missile strikes in three weeks, killing 12 militants and five bystanders.

Hamas officials later said Yassin was lightly wounded in his hand.

It was not clear whether Yassin was in a car or in a building when the missiles hit.

He is the highest-ranking Hamas official to be targeted by Israel.
