Former Iraqi official Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as Chemical Ali for his use of poison gas in attacks, has been captured, a US official said today.

Former Iraqi official Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as Chemical Ali for his use of poison gas in attacks, has been captured, a US official said today.

British military officials had believed he was killed in a bombing raid near the southern city of Basra in early April.
