Some of the eight tonnes of rubbish recovered from the slopes of Mount Everest has gone on display in Tokyo.

It was recovered in a series of clean-up operations by a team led by Japanese mountaineer Ken Noguchi.

In four operations, starting in 2000, the team collected rubbish that included 423 empty oxygen canisters.

They also found tents, fridges, food cans, gas tanks, plastic and ropes from various camps on the mountain.

Team members are also said to have found an unidentified body, which they brought down and then buried.

Noguchi, the youngest person to have conquered the highest summits on all seven continents, is campaigning for environmental recovery at Mount Everest.
