British troops face rioting Iraqi mobs

British troops were battling to control rioting mobs in the Iraqi city of Basra today after a power cut raised temperatures to boiling point.

Angry crowds hurled rocks, bricks and other missiles at soldiers in different areas of the southern city, an Army spokeswoman located there said.
