Two explosions shake Corsica
Two explosions rocked a holiday resort and an office of France’s state-run telecoms company in Corsica today, police said, but no one was hurt.
The first of the two blasts on the Mediterranean island happened late last night outside the France Telecom office in the northern town of Furiani.
Several hours later, another explosion shook the entrance to the resort in the western town of Porticcio. Several cars parked nearby were also damaged.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but separatist groups have led a campaign of bombings since the mid-1970s in a push for more autonomy for Corsica.
Most of their attacks have targeted official buildings in the middle of the night to spare victims.
But the violence has intensified since a Paris court convicted eight separatists last month in connection with the 1998 killing of the top French official in Corsica.
