Three US soldiers killed in Iraq
Three American soldiers have been killed in northern Iraq, a US military spokeswoman said today.
The attack on a unit from the 101st Airborne Division took place in the same area that Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday and Qusay were killed on Tuesday.
The 101st Airborne had taken part in that raid in Mosul and at least one armed guerilla group had vowed to avenge the brothers’ deaths.
A US spokeswoman in Baghdad had few details of the incident, but said the soldiers had been attacked with gun fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
The deaths brought to 158 the number of US servicemen killed in action since the war began on March 20 – 11 more than in the 1991 Gulf War.
Two Americans were killed in separate attacks on their convoys yesterday, including one near the Mosul and another west of Baghdad.
