Soldier killed in convoy attack

An American soldier was killed and four others were injured when attackers opened fire on a US convoy in a Baghdad street, the US military said today.

The attack occurred late last night in the Thawra neighbourhood, said military spokesman Sgt. Patrick Compton.

A civilian Iraqi interpreter was also wounded in the incident, Compton said. The wounded were evacuated to a combat support hospital, he said.
