At least nine casualties were reported in Paris today after an explosion collapsed part of a residential building near the stock exchange.

The cause of the blast at an apartment block on the rue d’Uzes was not immediately clear.

Firefighters and rescue workers rushed to the scene.

Firefighters said a strong blast destroyed the fifth or sixth floor of the building, shattering windows and sending debris into the street.
