State funeral for Walter Sisulu
Anti-apartheid hero Walter Sisulu will be given a South African state funeral on May 17.
Sisulu, a top African National Congress leader who spent more than 25 years in apartheid era prisons, died on Monday, aged 90.
His funeral will be held at Orlando Stadium in the black township of Soweto outside Johannesburg, according to the ANC. He will be buried at a Soweto cemetery.
“We are where we are today because of this great man whose name will forever be blazoned in letters of gold in the annals of our beloved land and mother continent,” said Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
