Abbas confirmed as Palestinian premier

The Palestinian parliament tonight confirmed Mahmoud Abbas and his Cabinet, clearing the way for the presentation of a US-backed Mideast peace plan in the coming days.

Fifty-one of the 85 MPs supported Abbas.
