Former Iraqi spy chief captured

Former Iraqi spy chief Farouk Hijazi has been captured by US forces near the Syrian border, an American official said today.

Hijazi was the former regime’s ambassador to Tunisia and a senior intelligence operative, but he was not among the top 55 most wanted officials.

Hijazi reportedly plotted to assassinate the former US President George Bush during a visit to Kuwait in the 1990s.
