Gaza City attacked from the air

The Israeli air force struck a target in the southern part of Gaza City tonight, witnesses said.

Witnesses reported a huge explosion in Gaza City’s Zeitoun district, known as a stronghold of the militant Hamas group.

It was not immediately clear what the target was. Ambulances were heard racing to the scene.

Residents said ambulances were taking casualties to Shifa Hospital, but it was not known how many.

Just before the air strike, residents said Israeli F-16 warplanes flew low over Gaza City, breaking the sound barrier.
