England fans seriously injured in Zurich clashes

Five English football fans have been seriously injured following violent clashes in Zurich.

Three men aged 32, 37 and 38 suffered gun shot wounds during disturbances in the Swiss city's old town.

Two other Britons, aged 38 and 42, were also taken to hospital with stab wounds.

A spokesman for Zurich Police said several shots were heard close to the Calypso Bar and a nearby food stall.

Twenty-five England supporters were arrested following fighting as police officers used tear gas to control the rioting.

Up to 800 England supporters arrived in Switzerland on Friday ahead of England's Euro 2004 qualifier with neighbouring Liechtenstein.
