On-the-run killer abducts Irish nun

US police are tonight hunting a man who abducted two nuns, one of them Irish, after killing his father in Georgia.

Adrian O’Neill Robinson, 25, was spotted today by police in Norfolk, Virginia, but escaped on foot after a brief chase.

There was no sign of one of the nuns who had been abducted, Sister Philomena Fogarty from Ireland.

The other, Sister Lucie Kristofik, 72, had been left at a motel in Norfolk on Tuesday and was being interviewed by police.

Norfolk police spokesman Chris Amos said they found evidence in the car the man abandoned but wouldn’t say what. He said the driver escaped into a marshy area.

The nuns’ abduction followed the shooting on Sunday of Henry Robinson, 56, at a home he shared with his son in Hamilton, Georgia, said local Sheriff Mike Jolley.

Authorities believe the son killed his father and then hiked three or four miles to Christ the King Catholic Church in search of a car.

Kristofik and Sister Philomena , who both lived in a mobile home near the church, were abducted there, Jolley said.

Sister Philomena, who is in her mid-60s, is from Ireland and was a missionary in Japan. She has lived in Hamilton for about 16 years and is well-known in the community, said Father Ronnie Madden.
