US nuclear plant may have been terror target
Terrorists may have targeted the Palo Verde nuclear power plant in Arizona, US Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said today.
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano sent National Guard troops to provide extra security at the plant.
Abraham told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee during a hearing that he could not go into detail about intelligence reports about the plant, the nation’s largest commercial nuclear power facility.
But in response to a question by Senator John McCain of Arizona, he acknowledged that there were indications it might have become a target for terrorists.
