Diplomacy offensive rages on over Iraq resolution

High-stakes diplomacy was continuing today at the United Nations in New York, as Britain struggled to secure support for a draft resolution to authorise war on Iraq.

Sources at the UN last night said talks would probably continue through the weekend in the hope of a vote on Monday, following US president George Bush’s announcement that he was willing to give a few more days for diplomacy.
