US warplanes have bombed military communications sites in southern Iraq after the Iraqis fired anti-aircraft guns at US planes, US Central Command said.

At around 7.45pm Irish time, the US planes bombed six cable relay sites between Al Kut, about 95 miles south east of Baghdad, and Basra, about 245 miles south east of Baghdad, Central Command said in a statement.
