A Pakistani military plane carrying 17 people, including the head of the air force, has crashed in a remote region of north-western Pakistan, a senior Air Force official said today.

A Pakistani military plane carrying 17 people, including the head of the air force, has crashed in a remote region of north-western Pakistan, a senior Air Force official said today.

It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties, said Sarfraz Ahmad.

Pakistani Air Force chief Mushaf Ali Mir was on board the Fokker transport plane along with other military officials, he said.

Rescue crews were sent to the site, about 150 miles north west of Islamabad.

“We don’t know whether there are any casualties, and we have sent people to the site,” Ahmad said.
