Protestors gather for anti-war march

Thousands of anti-war protesters took to the streets of Scotland’s biggest city today to voice their opposition to military action against Iraq.

A thunder of drum beats, blaring horns and whistles sounded at Glasgow Green to signal the start of a march that will snake through the city centre before arriving at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, where the Labour party’s spring conference is being held.

Organisers predict more than 25,000 people will take part in what is set to be the largest-ever peace demonstration ever staged north of the border.

The sun shone brightly but it was a bitterly cold morning as crowds started to assemble from before 10am.

There was a large police presence at the Glasgow park with some officers on horseback, while a police helicopter hovered above.
